Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and FisheriesEngineering and Field - Level 8Civil Engineering TechnicianBathurst or Tracadie-Sheila OpenThe Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries (DAAF) is seeking an individual to join the Crop Sector Development Branch as a Civil Engineering Technician, in Bathurst or Tracadie-Sheila.What you will do: As a member of the Crop Sector Development team, and reporting to the Manager of the Regional Section and Land Use Planning, the Civil Engineering Technician is responsible for road infrastructure, including overseeing construction and maintenance, water management issues, including drainage and hydrology, irrigation systems, surveying, erosion and terracing. The Civil Engineering Technician will provide advice on repairing or replacing culverts or other road infrastructure on Crown land or private farmland, and will also be involved in surveying access roads, troubleshooting drainage issues on agricultural land, and advising farmers on farm irrigation systems. This technician works closely with the Agriculture Land Specialist as part of a team focused on optimizing the use of land for agriculture in New Brunswick. Responsibilities also include collaborating with team members to work on industry-identified opportunities, planning, and reporting; and providing support and working in close collaboration with regional DAAF staff. Additional related tasks may be assigned as required.Need to have:High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by a diploma from a recognized two-year technology program in civil engineering or agricultural engineering, and a minimum of eight (8) years of progressively more responsible related post-diploma work experience. ORA University degree in Civil Engineering, Agriculture, or a related degree, and a minimum of five (5) years of progressively more responsible related post-degree work experience.An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.The successful candidate must be eligibility for membership in the New Brunswick Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists is required. Membership must be attained within six (6) months of appointment.Note: In the event that this competition poses difficulties in recruiting a qualified candidate, a covering off appointment, at a lower level, may be made. In that case, candidates with less than the required related years of experience may also be considered.Written and spoken competence in English and French is required.
